QARA NÚKTE/THE BLACK DOT is a solo exhibition by Saulet Zhanibek exploring the idea of the “black dot/point” as both personal symbol and philosophical starting place. Through stark contrasts of black and white, the artist creates emotionally charged visual worlds that reflect on memory, identity, and inner choice. The project connects nomadic heritage with contemporary introspection, inviting viewers to consider the worlds they create and inhabit.

Among all possible and impossible titles for a solo exhibition, artist Saulet Zhanibek chose QARA NÚKTE. Our ancestors believed in spirits, gods, and natural forces. They lived logically and freely. The most ecological way of life was nomadic, allowing full interaction with nature without violence toward it. We no longer wander, yet genetic memory preserves sacred knowledge within our souls, and we often perform actions that we cannot fully explain. For Saulet as a father, QARA NÚKTE is the dot on the forehead of his beloved son Ali, whose portrait was created especially for this exhibition. For the artist Saulet, QARA NÚKTE is a point of departure from which he moves between his worlds. These worlds are galaxies filled with images born from the heart and refined by a searching and profound mind. Absolute black and absolute white in his paintings begin to resonate and emit energy. Forms and narratives do what Shokan Ualikhanov once described — they astonish. They astonish and make one reflect on purity, depth, pain, joy, and the connection between our emotions and the world we have created around ourselves. Ultimately, we have a choice. Into which world does your “Self” wish to enter? And which one does it inhabit now?
