by Collective Profile
The exhibition brings together works by three contemporary Kazakh artists — Assel Sabyrzhankyzy, Almas Nurgozhayev, and Shalkar Kabdesh. The project addresses the concept of “content” as the inner, spiritual substance of art.
In some exhibition projects, this label is used to designate a group of artists presented within collective and complex exhibitions. This format is applied when a project is based on the interaction of multiple artistic practices and does not single out one central author. The precise list of participants and their individual biographies is provided in the descriptions of specific projects, particularly in exhibitions involving a large number of artists. The use of a collective designation ensures structural clarity in publications and emphasizes the concept of a group artistic statement.
The word "content" is currently very popular. It is used quite often, sometimes without fully understanding what it means. Content is not about online posts or follower engagement. It’s about the things that make your heart beat faster, smile at the sun, and watch the stars at night. It is about spiritual content. Three completely different artists address exactly that understanding in their works. Asel Sabyrzhanqyzy creates images of women from our past. It is not just fine art. Those are portraits of the queens and Amazonians of the Great Steppe painted on carpets. Eastern ornaments are woven into the fabric of the artist’s imagination. The wisdom, power, and beauty of her heroines go beyond the frames and transcend into a hypnotic dimension that takes you into a different reality. Almas Nurgozhaev stands on the other side of the sphere of fine arts with his big formats, brave, broad strokes, and complex compositions. Engaging with his works is akin to a spiritual experience. The observer dives deep into the emotional elements of the artist. But, only if they are brave enough. Brave to see, read, and understand. Shalqar Qabdesh is fluent in every technique of painting. Hyperrealism is his specialty. But in this project, he showcases his skill in sculpture and illustration. He’s created the most astounding relief pieces for today’s exhibition. Why? Most likely because every person, especially an artist, feels constrained by the framework of one genre. One wants to fly, to be unbound, to feel free. What is inside young Kazakh artists’ minds? Content? Inside their heads and souls lives art. Wisdom and bravery, beauty and contemplation, philosophy and courage. Are you ready for this? Wishing health, beauty, and kindness to all!
